 N184m fraud: Man gets 60 years in prison in Lagos




On Thursday, Judge Sherifat Solebo of the Special Offenses Court in Ikeja, Lagos State, sentenced one Chukwuemeka Ekwunife to 60 years in prison for defrauding a bank of N184,098,000.

Ekwunife was found guilty on counts one through six and given a 10-year sentence along with his company, Structured Energy Limited.

The defendant was accused of stealing by false conversion, according to a statement on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission's social media website.

"The trial judge found him guilty on counts one through six as accused and sentenced him to 10 years in prison, to be served concurrently, for each count.

In an amended eight-count indictment relating to theft by fraudulent conversion in violation of sections 278(1)(b), (2)(f), and 285(1) of the Criminal Code Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011, the EFCC arraigned Ekwunife and his company on February 19, 2018.
